Personal Experience My Experience At High School

I was greeted as soon as I entered the school, with a â€Å"Welcome to the secondary campus!† from a teacher I was unfamiliar with. It was the first day of sixth grade, and I was entering a brand new school for my middle school years. I was confidently wearing my new pink Hollister collared shirt and a pair of all white Nike kicks. It was the first time my mother had ever let me get shoes with white soles, because I was prone to getting sneakers dirty. I had a lesser likelihood of that this year, because unfortunately we no longer had recess, which previously had stained any shoe of mine from the mulch. I was considerably early, so when I headed to my homeroom I got the first choice of seat. This was one of the perks of being older, you†¦show more content†¦My doctor told me I was gonna be six foot when I was older! I was already really tall for my age, unlike the other girls in my grade. Especially unlike the boys of my grade, they were all short and didn’t seem to have grown at all over the summer. Except for N oah of course. Mrs. Dent went on about what to expect from the class, and everyone listened with open ears and somewhat quiet mouths. Until something happened that I never had expected to take place and had never occurred to me before. I was just given a phone over the summer, my mom thought I was getting of age and needed to be able to communicate with her whenever I needed. So I was not used to having it near me, and especially wasn’t familiar with turning it on silent whenever we were in class. My phone loudly *dinged* from a text I had received from my grandmother, that I would later see was wishing me a great first day of school. The class went silent, everyone’s head turned to my direction, including the teacher’s. There was a moment of silence, and I did my best to not look guilty. But Mrs. Dent said â€Å"Alright who’s phone was that†¦Ã¢â‚¬ I raised my hand. â€Å"Give it here.† She said the words I had prayed in that split second she wouldn’t say. My cheeks flushed and my throat went dry. I got the phone out of my pocket and silently handed it to her. I believed my future for this class was doomed, I had made a bad impression on the first day. Thin Film Solar Cell Free Essays

Abstract: Solar energy is quite simply the energy produced directly from the sun and collected elsewhere, namely the Earth. Photovoltaic technology directly converts solar energy into electricity. Photovoltaic thin film solar cells are easy to handle , inexpensive and also easy to use. We will write a custom essay sample on Thin Film Solar Cell or any similar topic only for you Order Now Thin film panel is flexible and can tolerate a bullet hole without failing and can greatly increase the surface area and the absorption coefficient needed to generate electricity. This paper will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the thin- film solar cell and also describe its application and how its work. Introduction: The solar cell is the latest technology around the world. The solar cell is also called a renewable energy source, because the capture the sunlight and convert it into the electrical energy. There are different types of solar cells, but the most important one is a thin- film solar cell. It is cost effective and its efficiency is greater than the other types of solar cells like thin film dye sanitized solar cell . Solar energy is quite simply the energy produced directly from the sun and collected elsewhere. All solar cells are made of silicon. Thin- Film Photovoltaic technology directly converts solar energy into electricity. Solar cells are made out of semiconducting material, usually silicon. The process of making a solar cell begins with taking a slice of highly purified silicon crystal, and then processing it through several stages involving gradual heating and cooling. Solar cells are based on semiconductor physics — they are essentially just a P-N junction photo-diodes with a very large light-sensitive area. Another common material for thin- film cells include Gallium Aarsenide (GaAs), Copper Indium Gallium Selenide, and gallium Phosphide. The most common types of photovoltaic cells are single-junction, multi-junction, and thin-film. A thin film panel is flexible and can tolerate a bullet hole without failing and can greatly increase the surface area and the absorption coefficient needed to generate electricity. Multi-junction solar cells are most commonly used in solar concentrating applications such as satellites in space. Today we use solar power to do many things. We use solar power for everything from calculators to large power plants that can power large cities. The most common applications for solar panels are used for small evices. The Solar cell technology research is continuing to create low-cost high-efficiency elements and the latest approaches in solar cell designs. Some countries do not have oil or do not have enough political and economic power to buy it or to produce it, but they receive more sunlight than others. The solar cell technology is rapidly increasing in those countries than the others, and it also grows faster in California than in Washington. Polycrystalline thin-film solar cells are based on those compounds which have the efficiencies up to 19. 2%. Nowadays, it is increased by 20. 4%. The Swiss Federal Laboratories for Material Science and Technology has recently developed a new thin-film solar cell with an efficiency of 20. 4%. Those cells are based on CIGS (copper indium gallium (DI) selenide) semiconductor material. The band gap on the top of the solar cell around 1. 6-1. 8 EV. The thin-film solar cells should be design by single-junction and also two- junction devices commonly used CIGS and CdZnTe. There are four different types of thin-film solar cell. 1. Amorphous silicon (a-Si) 2. Cadmium telluride (CdTe) 3. Copper indium gallium selenide (CIS/CIGS) 4. Organic photovoltaic cells (OPC) How Thin-Film Solar Cell Works: Thin-film solar cells are also called new generation of solar cell. This cell contains multiple layers of PV material. This new generation solar cells produce over 3700 megawatts of electrical energy in 2010. The main difference between the structure of normal silicon solar cells and thin film silicon solar cell is the thin flexible arrangement of the different layer as is shown as figure (1). The only advantage of that layer is to create a greater surface area for sunlight absorption and also it is very low weight and easy to use in cars and small devices. Figure (1) We use calculator everyday in our normal daily routine. These solar powered calculators have a small solar cell at the top corner of the calculator. These cells are built with thin –film technology. Most of them are very small about an inch long and ? inch wide. The thin-film solar cells are very thin that’s why they Called thin-film solar cell. Thin-film solar cell is different than the silicon wafer. Silicon wafer and thin-film solar cell have a light absorbing layer, but only difference is the thickness. The silicon wafer has 350 microns thick, but the thin-film solar cell has only one micron, and as result thin-film solar cell is very light weight compared to other solar cells. Thin-film solar cells are made of several layers. Those all layer helps to absorb light. As you can see in the figure (2). (Different layers in thin-film solar cell) Figure (2) On the other hand, some thin-film solar cell required the three functional layers from the multiple layers in a solar cell. These three have different important function. In the figure (a), show the front contact and back contact layers which have only one job to do and that’s is to provide the electrical contact with the solar cell from the outside the world. The figure (a) shows the basic theory of the different layer stack of the thin-film solar cell. Thin -film solar cell implemented by the different ways , but the three most common inorganic technologies are CuSe2 , CdTe solar cell, and also thin-film solar cell which has an amorphous and microcrystalline silicon absorber. There are three major types of thin-film solar cell. 1. Amorphous silicon (a-Si) 2. Cadmium Telluride (CdTe) 3. Copper indium gallium deselenide (CIGS). The (a-Si) solar cell is very commonly used and also easy to understand and implement it, but there are two major problems that cause this type of solar cell to have some drawbacks. The first problem is, silicon is very hard to find the market and buy it , because its demand often exceeds the supply. The second thing is, this type of solar cell has very low efficiency. This type of solar cell is also very thinner so they absorb sunlight in very less and on the other hand, they do not have enough power to absorb more. Therefore, they used in calculator and other very small and low power consuming devices. The Advantages of Thin-Film Solar Cell: 1. Thin-film solar cell is very cheaper than the silicon solar cell 2. They are also available in thin wafer sheet. 3.More flexible and very easy to handle it. 4. Less thinner than crystalline solar cell. It can be as thin . 001 mm or more, but the crystalline solar cells are . 15-. 2 mm thick. 5. Easy to install on the rooftop with a rugged mounting system with tilt at a fixed degree. 6. Thin film solar cells have better performance in the hot weather. See table (1) below. Why was Henry David Thoreau such a wonderful writer Essay Example For Students

Why was Henry David Thoreau such a wonderful writer Essay He had many great qualities, but the most important were his devotion to nature and writing, his desire for independence, and his experiences he encountered throughout his life. Henry David Thoreau looked to nature as the basis of life and writing. He believed that nature is the reflection of inner spiritual reality. He spent his life in search of the essentials of reality and of experiences that would bring him close to these essentials. He lived in a hut for two years at Walden Pond to rid his body of inessential things. During Thoreau’s stay, he completed his first book itled, A Week on the Concord and Merrimack Rivers(1849). We will write a custom essay on Why was Henry David Thoreau such a wonderful writer specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Here, he also filled his journals with materials for his most famous piece, Walden. After he left the hut, and after college, he became a literary apprentice by writing essays and poems and by helping edit the transcendentalist journal, The Dial. When success did not come, Thoreau remained dedicated to his program of â€Å"education† through intimacy with nature, and also through writing that would express this experience. It was his life in nature that was his great theme. In order for Thoreau to write so much on nature he had to be familiar with it. His knowledge of the woods and fields, of the rivers, the ponds, and swamps, of every plant and animal was outstanding. Emerson even stated, â€Å"His power of observation seemed to indicate additional senses. † Thoureau wrote a book titled Walden(1854) in which the theme of it was the relationship to the order and beauty of nature in the human mind. This book consists of records of Thoreau’s stay at Walden Pond. Thoreau’s love and devotion to nature and his writing was a key to his excellence in writing. Henry David Thoreau also felt that individualism was a great necessity to his writing style. In his piece of literature titled â€Å"Civil Disobedience†, he expressed his belief in the power and the obligation of the individual to determine right from wrong, independent of the dictates of society. Thoreau’s friends agreed with his views, but few practiced it in their own lives as consistently as he. Thoreau demonstrated his idea of independence in many ways. He worked for pay intermittently, he made relationships with many of the towns outcasts, he never married, he signed off from the First Parish Church rather than be taxed automatically to support it every year, and he ived alone in the woods for two years, in seclusion. His nearest neighbor was at least a mile away. While he was living independently in the woods, he thought of many new ideas for his literature. Thoreau even tried to encourage others to assert their individuality, each in his or her own way. He also believed that independent, well-considered actions arose naturally from a questing attitude of mind. He was first and foremost an explorer, of both the world around him and the world within him. In his most popular piece ever, Walden, he stated this: â€Å"Be a Columbus to hole new continents and worlds within you, opening new channels, not of trade, but of thought,†(Walden, p. 21). Also, Thoreau’s celebration of solitude was a natural outgrowth of his commitment to the idea of individual action. This following idea also brought up a point in Walden. â€Å"The man who goes alone can start today; but he who travels with another must wait till that other is ready,†(Walden, pg. 72) Many of Thoreau’s ideas of individualism can be found as major statements in his writing. Thoreau came to much of his great literature due to the amount of experiences he had throughout his life. His major experience was living at Walden Pond for two years and learning about his own life and about the wonders of nature. .u2b600c3c68d907d11d066b4f7e9a5ee1 , .u2b600c3c68d907d11d066b4f7e9a5ee1 .postImageUrl , .u2b600c3c68d907d11d066b4f7e9a5ee1 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u2b600c3c68d907d11d066b4f7e9a5ee1 , .u2b600c3c68d907d11d066b4f7e9a5ee1:hover , .u2b600c3c68d907d11d066b4f7e9a5ee1:visited , .u2b600c3c68d907d11d066b4f7e9a5ee1:active { border:0!important; } .u2b600c3c68d907d11d066b4f7e9a5ee1 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u2b600c3c68d907d11d066b4f7e9a5ee1 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u2b600c3c68d907d11d066b4f7e9a5ee1:active , .u2b600c3c68d907d11d066b4f7e9a5ee1:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u2b600c3c68d907d11d066b4f7e9a5ee1 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u2b600c3c68d907d11d066b4f7e9a5ee1 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u2b600c3c68d907d11d066b4f7e9a5ee1 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u2b600c3c68d907d11d066b4f7e9a5ee1 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u2b600c3c68d907d11d066b4f7e9a5ee1:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u2b600c3c68d907d11d066b4f7e9a5ee1 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u2b600c3c68d907d11d066b4f7e9a5ee1 .u2b600c3c68d907d11d066b4f7e9a5ee1-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u2b600c3c68d907d11d066b4f7e9a5ee1:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Conclusion For Edgar Allan Poe EssayThoreau even stated himself, â€Å"I learned this, at least, from experience. † Here, he was talking about how he got all the information for his book Walden totally from experiences. Although Walden was only moderately successful in Thoreau’s lifetime, his experiment in the wilderness did spark interest in young people. The book inspired people to follow his example and go to a lonely spot and wonder the world and find their place in it. For many, Walden served as a touchstone. Thoreau said that he went to the pond to write a book in memory of his brother, John, who had died three years earlier. Thoreau also stated, â€Å"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived (Walden p. 90). At Walden Pond, Thoreau worked on A Week, but he also became attracted to the Walden Woods and began making observations in his journal of them. He also began collecting materials to write lectures. By the time he left Walden Pond, Thoreau had combined lectures and notes from his journal to compile into his first draft of his book A Week. A Week was not very well excepted by the public though. After the failure of A Week, publishers postponed the publication of Walden. Eventually, Walden was published and was moderately successful, and it did make Thoreau popular. Walden consisted of the journal entries he had written. It also consisted of things he learned while he was in the woods. Walden also evolved from a sometimes shrill justification of Thoreau’s unordinary lifestyle into a complex account of a spiritual journey. Thoreau’s experiences were great attributes in his writing. Henry David Thoreau was a wonderful writer. He had many excellent qualities, but the best and most important were his devotion to nature and his writing, his feeling of individualism, and his experiences that were used to make his literature more lifelike. He used nature as his main theme in his writing. He felt that independence would help him be a better writer. He also experienced many things in order to make his writing filled with imagery. Thoreau used all these elements in order to please the reader’s mind with his literature.

Share croping essays Sharecropping was very hard for African American families in the 1800's. They were basically working for a place to live, while being in debt the rest of their lives. African American families would work long, hard days for many hours for absolutely zero pay. Adults weren't the only ones doing all of the work. The whole family, including children worked also. As you can see, these sharecropping children did not have an easy life. They worked just as hard, if not harder, Here is a small layout of what the plantations may have looked like. You can see in this sketch many African Americans working all over the entire plantation. They did all the work on these large farms. Here is a photo of a group of the Breaker Boys. These boys worked long, strenuous hours doing work that should be done by an adult. As you can see in this picture, these boys worked very hard for You can see how exhausted and sad this boy looks. He has been working for many hours in a hot, sticky factory. Child labor needed to be stopped This boy is sawing a piece of wood by himself at this factory. This was a very unsafe enviroment. A child this young shuld not of been using a piece of machinery like this by himself. This is another reason child labor despretly needed to be stopped. Here you can see how depressed and sad these Native Americans were. All of this was a result from the Dawes Act. It pushed the Native people out of the land they had set territory on first to small reservations This map shows where the reservations were located in the U.S. As you can see, the Natives were oushed to the northern and southern part of America. 5 Tips on How to Fill a Bubble Sheet

5 Tips on How to Fill a Bubble Sheet Taking a test is hard, and adding a bubble sheet doesnt necessarily make it easier. Make all of your studying count by following these easy tips for taking this type of test. Bring a Good Eraser to the Test   Bubble sheet readers are pretty sensitive, so you have to be very careful about changing your answers. When you erase one bubble and fill in another, you run the risk of getting the question marked wrong because the reader thinks you’ve answered twice. You want to be able to erase the wrong answer as completely as possible. Old, dry erasers don’t work well, so they will cost you valuable points. Follow Instructions   It sounds so simple, yet it proves to be the downfall of many, many students. Every single, solitary time a group of students takes a bubble-in test, there will be a few students who just don’t fill in the bubbles completely! Students also go a little haywire and overfill the bubbles, which means they scribble outside the lines completely and make the response unreadable. This is just as disastrous. Both misdeeds cost you points. Think about it: you sweat over each math question and work so hard to get each one right. Yet you don’t take care to fill in the bubble all the way? It’s plain self-destructive behavior! Make Sure Your Answers Match the Questions The classic bubble sheet mistake is the misalignment booboo. Students get â€Å"off† by a question or two and end up marking question five’s answer in question six’s bubble. If you don’t catch this mistake, you can end up mismarking an entire test booklet. Do a Section at a Time One way to keep yourself on track and avoid the misalignment booboo is to fill in the bubbles for one-page-worth of questions at a time. In other words, start on page one and read each question on that page, and circle or mark the correct answers in your test booklet. Once you get to the last question on a page, then fill in the bubbles for that entire page. This way you are filling in 4 or 5 answers at a time, so you are constantly checking your alignment. Don’t Overthink and Second Guess If you finish a portion of a test and you are sitting there with ten minutes to kill, practice some self-control. Don’t be tempted to re-think every answer. There are two reasons this is a bad idea. First of all, it’s a good idea to stick with your first gut feeling. People who overthink tend to change right answers to wrong answers. The second reason it’s a bad idea goes back to the bubble-erase problem. You can make a mess of your bubble sheet when you start changing your answers.

Strategic management Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words - 4

Strategic management - Essay Example These kinds of problem weaken the advantage of public transportation and restrict the development of public transport. The urban travel in Indian cities mainly happens by cycling, walking and public transport. Though in the last two decades there have been huge growth rates of cars and two wheelers by 10 % and 15 % respectively in India, the two wheeler ownership remains at 40 – 50 % and car ownership remains low at 3-13 %. This shows that in India the ownership rate of personalised vehicles are low. The same thing is repeated in Delhi where the contribution margin of urban public transport is low. At present in Delhi per 1000 people only 50 persons have cars and per 1000 people 74 individuals have motorcycles. Government of Delhi implemented a number of bus optimization policies but sadly bus did not become the subject of urban transport (Stock, and Lambert, 2001, p. 211). According to a study conducted by urban development ministry at the Centre, in Delhi the availability of public transport is very low i.e. per 1000 persons it is 0.504. The average waiting time for all 517 Delhi Transport Corporation buses is 70 minutes. The reason for such high waiting time was less frequent bus trips in underdeveloped and sparsely populated areas. According to the report only 2,202 buses out of 6,455 in Delhi are made according to urban bus specifications. The report indicates that on an average DTC rolls out 5,185 buses everyday out of total fleet of 6,088 buses. Besides 120 DMRC feeder buses and 247 private operator buses bring the total number of buses running in the city to 5,552. In Delhi there are total 657 routes which are registered with State Transport Authority. The total route length for all the routes including overlapping and suburban routes comes out to be around 16,200 km. But the suburban routes are very less in number and have very little contribution to the total route length. Hence the road network is very low (Chopra and

The Merchant of Venice Essay example -- Merchant of Venice Essays

William Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice is one of his most controversial plays for a variety of reasons. Written in sixteenth-century England, where anti-Semitism was common and the presence of Jews was not, the play poses many questions concerning racial, religious and human difference. The play is especially tricky to examine in today’s society, as its anti-Semitic themes and language can be uncomfortable to face in a world post-Holocaust. Additionally, the depiction of the relationship between Jews and Christians, which has always been an ambivalent one, adds a very interesting albeit difficult dimension to this play. Ultimately, through dramatic plot and distinctive characters, The Merchant of Venice explores what it means to be Jewish and what it means to be Christian. A closer analysis of these opposing groups unearths inconsistencies between what the characters preach versus what they practice, as well as their problematic notions of justice, mercy and love. Though he clearly fulfills the role of the villain and main antagonist in this play, the character of Shylock is extremely complex and multi-dimensional. He seems to have two sides that can be emphasized or played up in order to create a fundamentally different play, as has been done many times throughout history; post-Holocaust reproductions, for example, are obviously radically unlike than ones that may have come before (Rich 1). In most modern adaptations, Shylock is seen as a sympathetic character, perhaps due in part to the widespread acceptance in most modern societies of those from varying religious and racial backgrounds. However, it is entirely possible that Shakespeare, who was a genius playwright famous for his complex and multi-faceted characters, del... ... actually considered this a happy ending for the Shylock character (4); by converting he is â€Å"saved† from the possibility that â€Å"misfortune [may] cross†¦ / †¦ a faithless Jew† (2.4.35-37). This paper barely scratched the surface of the religious and moral complexity that is The Merchant of Venice, but it is clearly a complicated play and for many reasons: the racially charged tension, the anti-Semitic language and the morally ambiguous characters. What makes this play so exciting is that it provides neither answers nor apologies, provoking the ongoing disagreement as to what is really happening in this play. Shakespeare’s multi-layered characters and complicated representations of mercy, justice, love, religion and difference produce a remarkable piece of work that has kept people talking and guessing for centuries, and is sure to continue to for centuries to come.

Personal Statement Educational Autobiography Essay

Educational Autobiography As a young student my goal was to fly under the radar going unnoticed. However, time combined with life experiences changed my perspective and I am now very motivated to cultivate my academic skills to reach my full potential. Although I was smarter than most of my peers, as a product of growing up in lower income neighborhoods I was becoming as Rose puts it â€Å" One of those rough-hewn intellectuals whose sources are a mix of the learned and the apocryphal† (3). In other words I was one of those intellectuals who was rough around the edges and my sources were limited to what I figured out along with being doubtful. The more time went by, the more I learned that I was in charge of the outcome of my life, and that I didn’t have to follow the path that was laid before me that so many of my friends and family had taken. Grade school came easy for me, but I didn’t want to be seen as a nerd. I usually picked up on subjects pretty easily without any help at home. It’s a good thing too because my parents didn’t have the desire nor the capability to help with schoolwork. So most of the time I did the best I could in class to prove to myself and to the teacher that I was more than capable. When it came to homework I thought I was too cool for that, and besides, my trouble- making buddies and I had our own agenda for after school.
